Celebrating 50 years since the debut of The Muppet Show, the variety sketch comedy is back to charm a whole new generation. Jim Henson’s creations are making a ‘triumphant’ return, Disney has promised.
But when can you expect to tune in to the special? Here’s all you need to know:
How to watch The Muppet Show?
The revived version of the beloved variety show is making its return this week. It is set to be available to watch on Disney Plus in the UK.
It will also be coming to Disney+ in the US as well as being broadcast on TV via ABC. Global viewers can also find it on the House of Mouse’s streaming service.
What to expect from The Muppet Show?
Having originally made their on screen debut in the 1950s, Jim Henson’s Muppets got their very own variety show with this titular programme. The comedy sketch show originally ran from 1976 to 1981 and was followed by series like the Muppet Babies, The Jim Henson Hour and Muppets Tonight.
It was announced last year that to mark the show’s 50th anniversary, an event special was coming in 2026. Produced by Seth Rogan, it is set to feature some big name guest stars - as well as all your favourite Muppets!
Disney teases: “It's “The Muppet Show”! Kermit, Miss Piggy and the beloved Muppets ensemble are back with a brand-new special event.
“Music, comedy, and a whole lot of chaos are bound to ensue when The Muppets once again take the stage of the original Muppet Theatre with their very special guest, Sabrina Carpenter!”
Who are the special guests on The Muppet Show?
Veteran Muppet performers Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Matt Vogel will perform the majority of the iconic Muppet characters in this production, supported by a talented team of additional performers.
Dave Goelz, who has performed with The Muppets for over 50 years, was one of the performers on the original “The Muppet Show” and originated the characters Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, among many others.
However, there will be some human shaped special guests as well. Musical superstar Sabrina Carpenter is set to appear alongside Hollywood favourites Seth Rogen and Maya Rudolph.
