Why is One Piece not on today? Date fans can expect show to return

After decades on the air, One Piece has made its biggest change ever. The show is set to become a seasonal anime for the first time in its history.

The Egghead Arc wrapped up last weekend and the show has now gone on a break. It has sailed off into the sunset, at least for the time being.

But when can you expect the Straw Hats to return? Here’s all you need to know:

Why is One Piece not on today?

It has been another huge year for the iconic anime as it wrapped up the adaptation of the Egghead Arc. Having kicked-off back in January 2024, the 67th and final episode in the storyline was broadcast last week (December 28).

The Straw Hats are now preparing to head off to Elbaph Island on the next leg in their epic journey. Could they finally be edging closer to finding the One Piece?

In a major change, following the conclusion of the Egghead Arc, the show is becoming a seasonal anime. It will only broadcast 26 episodes per year going forward and adapt one manga chapter per episode.

When will One Piece return?

Fans are facing another big wait for the anime - and it is something they will have to get used to going forward. Since it is moving to a seasonal schedule, it means more breaks throughout the year from 2026.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the official One Piece staff account wrote: “To enjoy one chapter of the original manga in one anime episode, next year’s TV anime will broadcast up to 26 episodes annually!

“January to March will be a recharge period, and the Elbaf Arc will start broadcasting from April.”

It means there will be no new episodes until April. Expect an exact date to be confirmed closer to the time.
