'Lovely' Scottish farm shop to host pick your own tulips this spring
A Scottish farm shop known for its popular cafe is set to host a huge pick your own event this spring.
As we head towards the spring equinox and as the days get longer, there’s nothing nicer than treating yourself to a bunch of flowers.
More and more Scottish farm shops are diversifying their pick your own offering, from summer fruits such as strawberries to halloween pumpkins and now, flowers.
From sunflowers in late summer to lavender, one Perthshire farm shop is set to host a huge pick your own tulip event at the end of this month.
Gloagburn is owned by third generation farmers Ian and Alison Niven. The couple opened the shop in 2003, and have made the business a local success. In late 2025 they published their first cookbook with Kitchen Press as a homage to the traditional country cooking of Scotland and a celebration of its natural larder.
From its early days selling eggs at the roadside and jam at farmers’ markets, the farm now includes a thriving free-range egg business and a renowned cafe, deli and butchery. It is also the home to popular farming YouTube channel Crawfords Farm, run by her son. At the heart of it all is Alison’s farmhouse kitchen, always open to the four generations of the family that work on the farm or live close by.

The large shop and deli at Gloagburn opens into a popular cafe which serves breakfast, lunch and cakes and coffee.
Gloagburn Farm has been run by the Niven family since 1924, and currently produces free range eggs, beef, wheat, barley and vegetables, as well as pick your own seasonal produce such as the tulips.
The tulip season is usually from late March or early April for about three weeks and while there aren’t dates yet for this year’s event, last year’s went live on 3 April.
Afternoons and weekends are their busiest times, but there’s no booking required. Dogs on leads are welcome to attend to and last year’s prices were 60p per stem or 20 for £10. There are also likely to be pre-picked bunches in the farm shop.
As well as tulips, Gloagburn offers pick your own sunflowers from August, with more information on this available later in the year.
