First held in 2003, the Download Festival takes place in Donington Park, in Leicestershire, each year - with the biggest names in rock playing to a rawcous audience.
It belatedly took the place of the much-loved Monsters of Rock Festival, last held in the same venue in 1996.
Over the years it has had a string of high profile headliners over the years, including the like of Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Metallica, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Def Leppard and Kiss.
Last year saw Guns N' Roses, Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit close the three days on the main stage.
The first lineup announcement for the 2027 event is set to be announced in the second half of October, with the festival taking place from June 9-13.
Here are 13 bands that could be topping the bill - from near-certs to longshots.

5. Deftones
Strong rumours that Deftones would play Download in the last couple of years came to nothing, so maybe 2027 will be different. They've spent much of the last year touring well-received new album in 'Private Music' and few would complain about seeing them on the bill. | AFP via Getty Images

6. Muse
Muse headlined Download in 2015 and always guarantee a spectacular show. The timings could work - they released 10th studio album 'The Wow! Signal' earlier this year and are touring in 2027, with a string of European dates following four UK gigs this November. You imagine they'll be back to play in the openair in the summer and Download fits the bill perfectly. | Getty Images for Paramount Pictu

7. System of a Down
System of a Down are two-time Download headliners, most recently in 2017. They were due to play for a third time at the 2020 festival that was cancelled due to the global pandemic, so are overdue their headlining hat-trick. They have announced gigs in Brazil, New Zealand and Australia for next January and may well be looking to hit Europe in the summer. | AFP via Getty Images

8. Ghost
Grammy Award-winning metal band Ghost are another highly likely choice. Word has it that they were asked to play in 2025 but were unable to because of touring commitments. That tour was a huge commercial and critical success and their particular brand of theatricality would light up the Download stage. We can see them closing the whole festival on the Sunday. | Getty Images
