The Highland singer-songwriter’s new single is catchy, funky and infectious, write Derick Mackinnon and Olaf Furniss

Highland singer-songwriter Niamh Maclennan continues to gather momentum ahead of the release of her new single Drifter on 31 July. Catchy, funky and infectious, the song explores a desire to live freely. Anna Cooper, Jenny Clifford, Mandy Cooper and Stephen Buggy appear on the record.

She’s secured support from Phoebe Inglis-Holmes and Stephanie Cheape on BBC Introducing on BBC Radio Scotland, a live session on Derek McCutcheon's Rebellious Jukebox on CamGlen alongside airplay on Amazing Radio.

A multi-instrumentalist who studied at the National Centre for Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton before graduating in Popular Music from Edinburgh Napier University, she’s currently completing a Masters in Celtic Studies at the University of Glasgow.

Originally from the remote Applecross peninsula, the Glasgow-based artist, combines alternative rock with her Scottish traditional roots, appealing to fans of Amy Macdonald and PJ Harvey. She appears at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival on 31 July. Visit https://www.instagram.com/niamhmaclennan/
