Under the Radar: Doss

Although they bring a distinctively Glaswegian perspective to their songs, Doss are building a following well beyond their home city, write Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon

Doss have been building a respectable following since the release of their debut single Posters in 2021, and have been championed by the likes of 6 Music’s Tom Robinson and Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway. Specialising in a brand of electronic post-punk popularised by the likes of the Viagra Boys and Sleaford Mods, they have the added bonus of a Glaswegian perspective which blends social commentary with biting humour.

Their 2021 debut single Posers set the tone, poking fun at hipster buskers, while The Mullets Are Moving In, released the following year, tackles the gentrification of Glasgow’s working class neighbourhoods.

Doss’ music strikes a chord well beyond their native city, however, and they have toured both the US and Europe, as well as playing festivals as varied as Sharpe (Slovakia), Bearded Theory (Derby) and closer to home, Kelburn Garden Party.

Ahead of the vinyl release of their eponymous EP on Alcopop Records in May, the band headline Glasgow Art School on 18 April. For anyone keen to see them sooner, they are set to play the Cowgate Block Party festival in Edinburgh on 31 January, see www.linktr.ee/Doss.Band
