Under the Radar: Alice Faye

Glasgow-based songwriter Alice Faye draws on an unusual range of influences to create her beguiling sound, write Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon
Alice Faye recently won the Sound of Young Scotland prize at the Scottish Album of the Year Awards, having already chalked up an impressive list of achievements over the past two years.
These include plays on 6 Music, Radio 2 and Radio Scotland, a European tour in the spring (including several sold-out gigs) and a stint representing Scotland on Channel 4’s show, The Piano.
Moreover, the Glasgow-based songwriter has also supported acts including Nick Lowe, Marlon Williams and Rufus Wainwright. Citing an unusual range of influences including vaudeville, opera, 1930s jazz, 1960s pop and
vintage country, her forthcoming EP Some Brief Encounters has the beguiling, gentle beauty of The Low Anthem, with an infusion of Patsy Klein.
Released on 28 November, it is a collaboration with Julen Santamaria and is produced by George Miller. Faye hosts open mic nights at Glasgow venues bloc+ on Mondays and Dukes on Tuesdays, and will be playing a headline Celtic Connections show at the Citizens’ Theatre on 28 January. A London date and a tour of France will follow in February, with an album in the pipeline for later in 2026, see www.linktr.ee/alicefayemusic
