Irvine’s Abbie Gordon has a knack for writing ultra-catchy pop songs, write Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon

Hailing from Irvine, 19-year-old singer songwriter Abbie Gordon is creating a significant buzz. We first encountered the young musician through youth music project Hit The Road – well-known for helping develop artists such as Lewis Capaldi and Be Charlotte – and then again via Highlands live music and video platform NetSounds at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.

Gordon has a knack for writing ultra-catchy pop songs, with her single Out of Wine clocking-up over 20,000 streams on Spotify alone. She has also had support from Apple Music and Deezer, with airplay via RAPAL on BBC Radio nan Gàidheal, BBC Introducing on BBC Radio Scotland and Go Radio.

She has also supported UTR favourite Calum Bowie at Glasgow’s Barrowland and her next single, the melodic Bottlemouth, was recorded with The Nocturns (Tom Grennan, Calum Scott) and is released next Friday ahead of a headline show at Glasgow’s King Tut’s on 2 April, with support from Ewan McKenna, see https://www.instagram.com/abbiegordonmusic/

Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon run music industry seminar and social night Born To Be Wide, see www.borntobewide.co.uk
