EDINBURGH'S ancient Old Town boasts what are thought to be some of the world's earliest residential '˜skyscrapers'.

But despite this, Scotland’s capital is not famous for its tall buildings and there are no true, modern skyscrapers present in the city today.

A desire to preserve the historic character of the town has necessitated the implementation of heavy restrictions concerning the height of new buildings.

As we will see, the list of the Capital’s top 15 tallest buildings mostly comprises places of worship and post-war high rise accommodation.
