More than two million holidaymakers have used Pitchup.com in the last year to book their perfect pitch in advance, submitting over 159,000 reviews of what they have experienced.
They have rated aspects including location, value for money, quality of accommodation, activities and cleanliness, out of 10. Site had to have a minimum of 20 reviews to be considered for the list of the best.
Pitchup founder Dan Yates said: “Scotland is always a popular choice, and these genuine reviews help to show just why that is, with a good spread of highly-rated sites across the country and full marks for Beirhope Alpacas in the top spot. By clearly showing the average customer rating from past guests on all listings, and pulling through detailed reviews, we make it easy for people to see at a glance what to expect on their stay.”
Here are the top 10. They can all be booked at www.pitchup.com

9. Barrow Campsite, Nairn, Highlands
Barrow Campsite is set on the banks of the River Nairn a 10-minute drive from Nairn’s town and beach, in a secluded landscape with hillside views. There's a dedicated barbecue area on site if you’re keen on cooking over coals, and a supermarket’s about a 10-minute drive away to pick up produce. Potter around the pond at this dog-friendly park or roam beside the river; you could also fish from the water (just make sure to pick up a permit at a local shop in Nairn first). Once you’ve had enough of angling, trot back in time by exploring the Bronze Age barrow on site, the Hangman's Cairn. Prices start at £20 for a grass pitch. Arriving at the park by bike? There's a handy bike rack beside the common room and owner Ewan’s on hand to give top tips on biking routes around the area. Photo: www.pitchup.com

10. Isle Of Iona Campsite, Iona, Argyll & Bute
From the ferry, it’s a 20-minute walk to Isle of Iona Campsite on the west of the island, a working croft with first-rate views, roomy grass tent pitches and good facilities alongside its back-to-basics natural vibe: there are five toilets and five showers (in a smart washroom block opened for the 2021 season) plus a firepit and barbecue area. Foodwise, a Spar is on the island for picking up groceries, tipples and other essentials, with two hotels, a pub and a tearoom serving up meals and snacks. Cars are only allowed for fulltime island residents so leave yours at the ferry port in Fionnphort. Prices start at £20 for a grass pitch. Photo: www.pitchup.com
