Stirling members pull off stunning title hat-trick in Scottish Championships

Club set to mark feat by Huskie, Davidson and McLellan with special event later in the year

The domestic season may not be done and dusted just yet, but the battle to be Scottish Club of the Year has already been determined.

In what is believed to be a first, Stirling Golf Club has seen three members crowned as national champions this year and, yes, that really is a phenomenal feat.

Eighteen-year-old Erin Huskie started the ball rolling when she landed the Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship at Southerness before Alison Davidson then triumphed in the Scottish Senior Women’s Open at Duff House Royal.

The icing on the cake has now been delivered by Greg McLellan after he claimed the Scottish Men’s Amateur Championship at Murcar Links.

“Stirling Golf Club is proud of the achievement both individually and collectively from all three champions,” said captain Peter Gilchrist of the title hat-trick.

“The culture at SGC is that of an extremely competitive club with a proud history of members winning at national and county levels culminating in being recognised at International level.

“The club plans to celebrate this unique event with a dinner to be held at the club later in the year with all three trophies on display and, of course Erin, Alison and Greg once their busy golfing diaries align.”

Huskie and Davidson, meanwhile, have already taken part in an exhibition match at the club to mark their feats, the duo being joined for that by 2021 Women’s Amateur champion Louise Duncan and Alyson McKechin, the 2025 Scottish Golf Coach of the Year.

McLellan, who is a greenkeeper at Loch Lomond, claimed his crown with his twin brother, Stewart, caddying for him. “It means everything to me - I never thought I would ever win it,” he confessed. “It’s mindblowing that my name will be on this trophy forever. “It’s genuinely a dream.”

Davidson, meanwhile, is no stranger to collecting trophies. As Alison Rose, she won the 1997 Ladies British Open Amateur Championship and played in the Curtis Cup in 1996 and 1998.
