South African Open boost for Cameron Adam on back of first top-ten finish on DP World Tour
Minimum of five Scots set to tee up at Houghton GC but more could be added
Cameron Adam has secured a nice bonus through recording his first top-ten finish on the DP World Tour.
The 22-year-old rookie was set to miss out on playing in this week’s Investec South African Open at Stellenbosch through the field being split with the Sunshine Tour.
Adam’s exemption category from winning a Global Amateur Pathway last year meant he was set to be comfortably below the cut-off mark for the $1.5 million event, which starts on Thursday.

However, he will now be teeing up in a field alongside Race to Dubai leader Patrick Reed and four-time major winner Ernie Els after finishing in the top ten in the Magical Kenya Open in Nairobi on Sunday.
That secured an automatic spot for the left-hander in this week’s field and also gives him a chance of getting into next week’s Joburg Open as well.
Under his Category 17 exemption, Adam is currently 19th reserve for the second leg of a South African double-header at Houghton Golf Club in Johannesburg.
Four Scots teeing up in Tuesday qualifiers
Adam is set to be among a minimum of five Scots teeing up in the Investec South African Open, with Connor Syme, Ewen Ferguson, Calum Hill and Scott Jamieson currently in the field.
Richie Ramsay, the 2010 winner, was first reserve on Tuesday afternoon and faces a sweat to see if he will get into the field as well.
In one of three qualifiers that took place on Tuesday, Daniel Young carded a seven-under-par at Kuilsrivier Golf Club but missed out in a six-way play-off for the final three spots.
Former Buchanan Castle man William Guy (71) also came up short in that shoot-out, as did Callum Bruce (70) and John Paterson (74) at Pearl Golf Club.
