Sean Connery's love for golf sees Scottish duo handed big boost

Gemma Dryburgh and Louise Duncan delighted to receive Sean Connery Foundation support

Scottish No 1 Gemma Dryburgh and Louise Duncan, who shone in the 2021 AIG Women’s Open at Carnoustie, have both been handed a boost thanks to Sean Connery’s love for golf.

After Hannah Darling and Lorna McClymont became the first beneficiaries of financial support from the Sean Connery Foundation 12 months ago, Dryburgh and Duncan have been announced by Scottish Golf as this year’s recipients.

“It’s fantastic to link up with the Sean Connery Foundation and Scottish Golf and I’m very grateful for their backing as I travel the world competing in the sport I love,” said Dryburgh.

“I’m a proud Scot and being able to fly the flag for my country on the LPGA Tour is something I cherish. I believe there’s so much more that I can achieve in the game – and having the backing from the Foundation can only help me as I pursue my career goals.

“I’m also looking forward to working more with the women’s performance teams at Scottish Golf, something I’ve enjoyed doing in the past.

“It’s exciting to have this opportunity to join up with a talented group of players and pass on the knowledge I’ve gained over my 10 years on tour.

“We all want to see more Scots excel in the game and that’s why I’m thrilled to work alongside Clare Queen and her coaching team at Scottish Golf and offer any guidance I can to help develop the stars of the future.”

Duncan, who won The R&A Women’s Amateur Championship in 2021 before tying for tenth behind Anna Nordqvist in the AIG Women’s Open a few months later at Carnoustie, is currently playing on the LET Access Series, the LET’s development circuit.

“I’m grateful to Scottish Golf backed by the Sean Connery Foundation for believing in me and providing this funding to support me on my golfing journey,” said the 26-year-old. “I know from experience in the last few years that it’s not easy to make the jump from top amateur to professional level.

“The margins between success and failure are small and that means every percentage gain can make a huge difference.

“I’m working as hard as ever to progress my career and this support from two organisations who champion golf in Scotland and understand the challenges faced by women golfers trying to make their way on tour comes as a huge boost.”
