Scottish venue enjoys 40% jump in its golf business in 2025

Schloss Roxburghe benefits from Ross Ovens moving into head of golf post

A Scottish golf resort has seen a 40 per cent increase in the financial performance of its golf business since it came under new management.

Schloss Roxburghe, the Kelso venue where the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge was played last year on the HotelPlanner Tour and is returning this year, is now part of IMG’s Golf Course Services division.

The first full year of the arrangement has been hailed as a huge “success”, with Bruno de Schuyter, general manager at Schloss Roxburghe, excited about a “renewed confidence and belief in the positive impact that golf can continue to make to overall resort performance” in 2026.

One of the key decisions made since IMG came on board was the promotion of Ross Ovens, who had more than 25 years’ experience at Schloss Roxburghe, to head of golf.

“Moving into a club management role has been a major step, but IMG’s management team have been with me every step of the way,” said Ovens. “This truly has been a collaborative effort and is just a start as we continue to bring more golfers from across the globe to experience our incredible golf course and estate.”

On the golf side of the business, investment has been made in a state-of-the-art greenkeeping facility while a new TopTracer driving range has also been added.

“We have long known the potential of the business at Schloss Roxburghe and the transition to full management has allowed us to deploy the full power of IMG to ensure its success,” said Russell Hannah, IMG Golf Course Services VP.

“From improving booking processes and online presence, to instilling new services standards and sales structures, we have empowered the team to drive success, and we couldn’t be prouder of what has been achieved in this first year.”
