World Rugby announces Hall of Fame inductees including man who masterminded famous win over Scotland
Five modern-day greats join pantheon
World Rugby has announced the names of five modern-day greats who will be inducted into its Hall of Fame this year.
They include Diego Dominguez, the supremely gifted stand-off who masterminded a famous victory for Italy over Scotland in the first Six Nations Championship.
Dominguez kicked six penalties, dropped three goals and converted Giampiero de Carli’s try in a stunning 34-20 win at the Stadio Flaminio in Rome in February 2000. It was Italy’s Six Nations debut and the triumph over the defending champions caused reverberations in the sport.

Dominguez, now 60, played in three Rugby World Cups and was a talisman for the Azzurri. He will be inducted during next year’s Six Nations, ahead of one of Italy’s home matches. Born in Córdoba, Argentina, he was capped twice by the Pumas before switching international allegiance to Italy, his grandmother's homeland.
182 inductees since the Hall of Fame began in 2006
The other inductees are Abdelatif Benazzi (France), Jen Crawford (USA), Sue Day (England) and Rochelle Martin (New Zealand), taking the number of inductees to 182 since the Hall of Fame began in 2006.
Morocco-born Benazzi won 78 caps in the back row for France from 1990-2001 and is now vice-president of the Fédération Française de Rugby and a World Rugby Council member. Crawford was a central figure in USA winning the inaugural Women’s Rugby World Cup in 1991, beating England 19-6 in the final. Day is England’s record try-scorer and Martin is a three-time Women’s Rugby World Cup winner with New Zealand.
The quintet join Joel Stransky and Zinzan Brooke who were inducted into the Hall of Fame earlier this year.
