The story behind Scotland's Six Nations magical try against Wales
Winger Graham hails Russell’s role in audacious moment
It will go down as one of the most audacious Scotland tries of all time and Darcy Graham was quick to praise his team-mate.
Graham was the scorer and Finn Russell was the creator and, in truth, both deserve huge credit for the moment of ingenuity in Cardiff as the visitors pulled off a 26-23 comeback win to keep their Six Nations title hopes alive.
Wales had just scored a penalty through Jarrod Evans to extend their lead to 23-12 in the 57th minute. But the Welsh were caught napping at the restart when Russell drop-kicked the ball long to the corner.

James Botham turned his back on it and Gabriel Hamer-Webb dithered as Graham came storming down the left flank. As the Scotland winger admits, the bounce of the ball favoured him, springing backwards into his arms, and he didn’t need a second invitation to plunge over and celebrate wildly in the corner.
Russell added the conversion to cut Wales’ lead to four points and set up a nailbiting finish. It was George Turner, the Scotland replacement hooker, who applied the coup de grace with the match-winning try six minutes from the end of an incredible match.
For Graham, the try summed up just how sharp Russell is in both thought and deed.
“Just as they were taking the penalty, Finn said: ‘Darcy be ready’,” explained the winger. “I just saw him sprint up to the halfway line and he just gave me the nod, I gave him the nod. I knew it was on so I just went out as hard as I could for that ball and got a lucky bounce and managed to finish it.

“It was just one of those things, he was ready for it and he gave me the nod and I knew it was on. He's obviously seen that space. I think their winger chased the penalty hard so then Finn, in his head, he was going to beat him to that space to get back. It worked out. I'll probably never get a bounce like that again!”
The score drew him level with Duhan van der Merwe as Scotland’s all-time leading try-scorer on 35. Graham, however, played down his own role.
“It was all Finn!” he smiled.
