Edinburgh Accies and Glasgow Hawks square off with both sides chasing first their Premiership win of season

Raeburn Place to host clash between top flight’s bottom two sides this weekend.

The two teams yet to pick up a win in this season’s Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership will face off this weekend as Edinburgh Accies welcome Glasgow Hawks to Raeburn Place.

Both sides have lost their opening three games of the season with Accies beaten away at GHA and Kelso and at home to Ayr while Hawks have fallen at home to Currie and Watsonian and away at Melrose. Although it’s still very early in their respective campaigns, Saturday’s fixture could prove to be a crucial one for both clubs.

Accies are back in the top flight after a two year absence having won promotion as National Division 1 champions last season. It has been a tough start to life back in the Premiership but head coach Michael Todd has been able to take positives out of their defeats, mainly the performances of his young players.

Edinburgh Accies coach has been ‘very impressed’ with young players as capital club make Premiership return

“I’ve been very, very impressed with some of our young players really putting their hand up,” he told The Scotsman. “From schoolboy rugby to the Premiership is a big jump and I think some of the younger guys have been some of the better performers.

“It's obviously a big step up (from Nat 1). Also, with smaller playing numbers, week to week becomes quite a tough battle.

“For me, it's also about making sure the club's in a good place whenever my time comes to move on. Can I make them better rugby players and try and help set the club up longer term?”

Todd added that he isn’t treating this weekend’s match any different to their other fixtures, adding: “At the end of the day think every game is important. You've just got to put your best foot forward every week.

“You can't get emotional for one and not the other because then you get beaten pretty badly. You've got to be up for every game.”

Meanwhile, at the other end of the Premiership this weekend, Ayr and Currie Chieftains will both look to keep up their one hundred percent starts to the season as they travel to Kelso and Watsonian respectively. Melrose host Heriot’s at the Greenyards and Hawick welcome GHA.
