Unbeaten Currie and Melrose face off in Premiership game of the weekend
Chieftains to host Borderers in round three of 2026/27 Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership season.
The game of the weekend in the Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership sees two undefeated sides facing off as Currie Chieftains welcome Melrose to Malleny.
The hosts have started the 2026/27 campaign with victories at home to Heriot’s and away to Glasgow Hawks. Meanwhile, the visitors are coming into the fixture following their own win over Hawks at home and an away victory against GHA.
It promises to be a blockbuster clash in round three with at least one side set to lose their 100 per cent record. Currie will hope that home advantage can give them an edge over the Borders club after both sides began the new league season so strongly.
Currie and Melrose head coaches ready for Premiership clash between unbeaten sides

“Malleny is a good place for us,” Chieftains head coach Mark Cairns told The Scotsman. “We've been pretty successful here, we've had consistently good results at home.
"The team are pretty sore after the game against Heriot's. It was a big physical contest, it wasn't always as accurate as I would have liked it to have been but the tempo and intensity we played with was class
“Melrose have won at Malleny in recent years and we're definitely aware of that. We want to make our own patch a really tough place to come and play and I expect the guys to create that environment against Melrose.
“To go away and get a result at GHA is pretty impressive, that's a club that's really building. So they've done really well in week one and then backing that up with a really convincing win against Hawks it just shows you that Melrose are playing some good rugby. We've got to be aware that if the game opens up, I think that's where they will be probably more comfortable.”
Melrose head coach Callum Anderson is under no illusion that this weekend’s match will be their toughest test so far. He said: “Obviously it's going to be a big challenge for us, but it's a challenge that the boys are really looking forward to. No doubt [our toughest game so far], everyone does their homework and sees what other teams are doing.
“Currie, they're a good outfit, they seem to be very physical and put some nice shapes on. You can't be ignorant of what somebody else is going to do, but then also it's just where you put the emphasis on what you go after.
“We were almost better against GHA than we were last week (beating Hawks). I think psychologically that's big for us, to get an away a win and then also to back it up last weekend. I think we've been bad in the past for kind of highs and lows so it's about going, right, there's a big challenge, so let's go and test ourselves and there's no better test than the next one, especially against somebody like Currie that have got big aspirations of challenging this year.”
Elsewhere in the Premiership this weekend, league leaders Ayr - who have also won two from two so far - host Hawick at Millbrae. Edinburgh Accies travel to GHA, Glasgow Hawks host Watsonians and Kelso are at Goldenacre to take on Heriot’s.
All five matches are scheduled for 3pm this Saturday.
