Scots star in French Top 14 win while international prop makes successful injury return

Scotland internationals in competitive action across French top flight and England’s PREM Cup.

We’re now less than two weeks away from the start of the 2026/27 United Rugby Championship (URC) season, with Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh kicking off away to Munster and Ulster respectively.

However, competitive rugby is already well under way across England and France, where the Premiership Rugby Cup is in its group stage and the Top 14 has already played two rounds. There are plenty of Scots currently representing clubs across both competitions, including many current internationals who are making a phased return to action following the Nations Championship fixtures back in July.

This weekend saw a mixed bag of results for the expats, but there was plenty of positives including try scorers and injury returns. Here is a round-up of Scotland players in action at the weekend:

Scots light up France’s Top 14 as former Glasgow Warriors’ man begins Montpellier career with a bang

Adam Hastings first start for Montpellier was a memorable one as the former Glasgow Warriors man scored an early try and kicked two penalties to help his new side to a 26-12 win at Vannes. He was replaced by former Scotland captain Stuart Hogg in the 58th minute, who then scored five points himself through a conversion and penalty.

Ali Price also featured for the visitors as he replaced Dimitri Delibes in the 67th minute. Dave Cherry started at hooker for the hosts and played 52 minutes.

Hamish Watson and Castres were on the wrong end of a 43-29 loss at Perpignan but the 2021 British & Irish Lions tourist, playing 57 minutes at number 8, did manage to bag himself a try. Johnny Gray started and played 49 minutes for the hosts.

Blair Kinghorn got his first rugby of the season under his belt as a 65th-minute replacement at full-back for Thomas Ramos as Toulouse beat Bordeaux 48-12 in a thrilling contest. Elsewhere, Ewan Johnson was a 61st minute replacement for Argentina international Lucas Paulos in Bayonne's 70-28 loss at league leaders Pau.

One player who hasn’t had the start to life in France he might have wanted is Huw Jones with the centre playing the full 80 minutes for Toulon who are now two defeats from two having lost 20-21 at home to La Rochelle. Ben White also got his first run out of the new season as a 59th-minute replacement for Baptiste Serin.

Scotland prop returns after picking up injury on international duty

Elliot Millar Mills played his first match since the calf injury he sustained in Scotland’s 47-38 win over Argentina in Cordoba that ruled him out of the subsequent fixtures against South Africa and Fiji. The prop made his Newcastle Red Bulls debut in the starting XV, going for 50 minutes of their Premiership Cup win away to Leicester Tigers before being replaced.

Chris Harris was an early introduction from the bench for the north east club, coming on in the 30th minute, as they ran out 36-24 victors. Elsewhere, James Lang was forced off with a HIA in the 13th minute of his return match with Harlequins as they beat Northampton Saints 29-14 at The Stoop and Gus Warr was an unused replacement for Sale Sharks in their 43-26 loss at Gloucester.
