Nations Championship Finals Weekend - how does it work and who will Scotland play?

Finals Weekend for the 2026 Nations Championship will take place on November 27 (Friday), November 28 (Saturday) and November 29 (Sunday). All 12 teams competing in the competition will play one more match on one of those dates.

Team from the Northern Hemisphere Pool face team from the Southern Hemisphere Pool across all six rounds of normal fixtures with the first three of those rounds having taken place this summer. The three rounds of November internationals are up next.

Northern Hemisphere teams are ranked in a pool stage table with each other based on the points they pick up against their Southern Hemisphere opponents and vice versa. Once all six rounds have been played each team will face the nation who corresponds with their final Pool stage placing from the other Hemisphere’s Pool on Finals Weekend.

That means that Scotland, and everyone else, are unlikely to know their opponents until after round six of the competition. Gregor Townsend’s side currently sit second in the Northern Hemisphere Pool with 11 points after three rounds while the All Blacks occupy the same position in the Southern Hemisphere Pool.

The dates and kick off times for the matches have been decided before the participants are know. They will all be played consecutively at Twickenham Stadium and all kick off times are GMT:

Friday, November 27

  • Twelfth place final (sixth placed team) - 4:40pm
  • Fifth place final (third placed teams) - 8:10pm

Saturday, November 28

  • Ninth place final (fifth placed teams) - 1:10pm
  • Third place final (second placed teams) - 4:40pm
