Scotland international undergoes surgery and could miss start of rugby season

Shoulder operation addresses “long-standing issue”

Cameron Redpath enjoyed his most successful season at club level in 2023-24, helping Bath reach the Gallagher Premiership final, but the Scotland international looks likely to miss the start of the next campaign after undergoing surgery.

The talented centre had an operation on his shoulder to address what his club described as “a long-standing issue” and it is not clear when he will make his return.

Redpath, 24, has endured a number of serious injuries over the course of his career but this latest one appears more straightforward. Rory Murray, Bath Rugby's head of medical services, issued an upbeat bulletin on his progress on Wednesday.

“Cam… had shoulder surgery in the summer to address a long-standing issue,” Murray told the club’s website. “He is currently not in squad training, instead working with Bath Rugby’s conditioning coaches and is progressing well. The club will be in a better position in mid-August to know for which game he will return.”

Bath kick off the new season at home to Northampton Saints on September 20 in what is a repeat of last season’s Gallagher Premiership final which Saints won 25-21 at Twickenham. Redpath started the match at inside centre, his 30th and final game of the season for club and country. He played 21 times for Bath and nine times for Scotland across the campaign, the most he’s played in a single season professionally.

Meanwhile, Harlequins have announced the signing of former Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny for the 2024-25 season. The 35-year-old returns to the UK after a stint in New Zealand with Crusaders.
