Andy Onyeama-Christie’s terrible luck with injuries has continued with the Scotland international back-rower ruled out for the remainder of the season after once again fracturing his arm.

The Saracens flanker posted a picture of an X-ray on his Instagram account with the message: “Annual injury post, 3rd time lucky with the arm. Remaining hopeful - it’ll get better.”

Onyeama-Christie, capped 10 times by Scotland, twice broke his arm in a 12-month period between 2023 and 2024, causing him to miss the Rugby World Cup and a Scotland summer tour. He also fractured and dislocated his left ankle last October playing for Saracens against Harlequins, a particularly nasty injury which he later described as “the worst pain imaginable”.

The latest setback is a real blow for Onyeama-Christie who has been a regular for Sarries all season and played the full 80 minutes in last weekend’s Champions Cup tie against Bath.

Saracens confirmed that the player had suffered a fractured arm and would not be back for them until the 2026-27 campaign. The injury means he will almost certainly be unavailable for Scotland’s summer fixtures. The national side will face Argentina, South Africa and Fiji in the inaugural Nations Championship in July.

The versatile flanker was not selected for this year’s Six Nations but he did play for Scotland A against an Italy XV in February in Rieti. His last full cap came against Tonga at Murrayfield last autumn.

Team-mates were quick to offer their support to Onyeama-Christie. Fellow Scotland back-rower Matt Fagerson posted: “Ironman rebuild 3.0. Got this.”
