It was a tight, tense affair and the Lions played some good rugby but the Springboks prevailed thanks to two late penalties from replacement stand-off Morne Steyn.
The world champions came back from losing the opening match to win the series by two Tests to one.
Here’s how the Lions rated:
9. Ali Price
Recalled as a starter to bring more tempo and delivered on that score. Slick delivery for Russell. 7/10 Photo: Phill Magakoe/AFP via Getty Images
10. Dan Biggar
Lasted only ten minutes due to a knee injury. Missed with one penalty attempt before being replaced by Finn Russell. 3/10 Photo: Rodger Bosch/AFP via Getty Images
11. Duhan van der Merwe
Was seen in bursts in an attacking sense and looked far more assured in defence than he did in the second Test. 6/10 Photo: Halden Krog/AP
12. Bundee Aki
A powerful midfield presence and linked up well with his Connacht team-mate Robbie Henshaw. 7/10 Photo: Phill Magakoe/AFP via Getty Images
