Glasgow Warriors ready for 'emotional' Scotstoun homecoming this Friday

Rugby club to Plaster it Purple for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity against Cardiff in URC

Glasgow Warriors return to Scotstoun this Friday for the first time since their 22-19 Investec Champions Cup exit at the hands of Toulon last month.

Franco Smith’s side have had back-to-back matches against the Lions and Stormers in South Africa followed by a weekend off since then. They are back on home turf this Friday night as Cardiff Blues come to town for a URC clash that is set to be extra emotional.

That’s because this match will once again see the Plaster it Purple campaign in aid of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity take over Scotstoun. As part of the wider Fighting for Our Families Campaign, the fixture is a highlight and culmination of fundraising efforts throughout the season.

Glasgow Warriors will always ‘shout as loud as we can’ on charity’s important work

Supporters are encouraged to attend the match dressed in purple and there will be a variety of family friendly activities to enjoy ahead of kick off. For the players, it adds an extra bit of emotion to the fixture according to back rower Ally Miller.

"We want it to be a fun environment for them as well,” said the 29-year-old, who himself has a young child. “We can see the hospital from where we eat our lunch, so any chance we get to amplify that message and all the great work that Plaster it Purple do at the hospital, we shout as loud as we can about it.

“I think the energy when we come to Scotstoun is brilliant, especially with the Plaster at Purple this weekend. So, there's a lot of emotion that we can pull into this weekend.”

Cardiff come to Glasgow looking to cement their position in the play-offs and potentially climb the standings with just two rounds of fixtures remaining. They are only five points behind Warriors and Miller is aware that both teams have a lot on the line going into the fixture.

He added: “We're both fighting for slots, home advantage going into the knockout stages, every point counts now. With them sitting in sixth at the moment, it's a really competitive run into the playoff games.”
