'Special moment' - Jamie Dobie reaches 100 Glasgow caps as Warriors name team for URC opener at Munster
Scotland star hoping to mark memorable club occasion with positive performance at Thomond Park.
Jamie Dobie says it’s ‘wild to think’ that he has reached 100 appearances for Glasgow Warriors as the versatile back gets set to become a club centurion in their 2026/27 URC opener.
The 25-year-old has been named on the wing for Franco Smith’s side as they get another new campaign underway against Munster at Thomond Park this Saturday. The Invernessian made his competitive debut for the club under current All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie back in 2019 when he came on as a replacement against Franco Smith’s Cheetahs in the then Pro 14.
All these years later the Scotland international will become the latest in a long line of notable current and former Warriors to reach 100 caps which includes the likes of current teammates Kyle Steyn and Stafford McDowall. He wants to make the occasion even more special with a strong performance and hopefully a victory but knows it will be a tough test away in Ireland.
“It's wild to think that I'll be able to reach 100 games for such a great club” - Dobie on becoming a Glasgow centurion
“It'll obviously be a special moment for myself,” said Dobie. “Hopefully some of my family will be out there, it'll be nice to have them over in Ireland.
“It's wild to think that I'll be able to reach 100 games for such a great club. I remember my first experiences in Glasgow and playing my first matches over in South Africa when Franco was coaching the Cheetahs.
“To reach a milestone with him as a head coach here is really cool. I’m really excited and hopefully as a team we can start the season positively and mark an occasion like that.
“ I think everybody is excited to get out there. It's been a bit of a shorter pre-season for some of us [players involved with Scotland over the summer], obviously coming back from tour and then having our time off after that.
“We've only really been back in the training environment properly for three weeks, so it doesn't feel like we've been slogging too long for pre-season. I think everybody's really excited to get back out there and to compete properly.”
On their opening round opponents, Dobie added: “I think you have to be ready to go, especially starting with a game like Munster away. I think we've had some really good pre-season training and I think everybody is ready.
“There's a lot of consistency in this squad and with the coaches. We all know what we're doing, so we're not starting afresh for pre-season. I think we're as ready as we've ever been for the first game of the season.”
Warriors finished top of the URC table last season but lost in the semi-finals to the Bulls at Murrayfield. They also suffered a disappointing exit in the Champions Cup at the hands of Toulon at Scotstoun having looked so strong in the pool stage.
In terms of their goals this season, Dobie commented: “I think as a team it's to continue where we've been the last couple of years and challenging right at the top of both competitions. I think we did some amazing things last year and probably more than a lot of people thought in terms of our European campaign and finishing the league on top as well.
“Obviously both of those campaigns we didn't finish the year on a high, that's the nature of sport, only one team gets to finish the season on a high.”
