Four Scotland internationals back fit and in contention for Edinburgh's URC clash at Dragons
Duhan van der Merwe and Magnus Bradbury both available for trip to Rodney Parade.
Edinburgh are set to welcome back no less than four players from the unavailable list in time for this weekend’s URC trip to Dragons.
Club captain Magnus Bradbury and winger Duhan van der Merwe are both fit and available for selection having recovered from their respective injuries. Flanker Liam McConnell and full-back Harry Patterson, both Scotland internationals, have also returned and are ready to play.
Bradbury picked up an ankle injury in their URC defeat to Stormers at the end of March which initially looked to have ruled him out for the rest of the 2025/26 campaign. However, he has returned sooner than initially expected and will make his 150th appearance for the club if he is selected for the match at Rodney Parade on Saturday.
Edinburgh looking to carry momentum into final two URC fixtures this season
Although there is nothing left to play for this season, with Edinburgh unable to finish in the play-off spots, assistant coach Stevie Lawrie is still stressing the importance of a strong finish. The capital club made it back-to-back league victories with their impressive 33-28 victory over Sharks last time out and a strong performance at a difficult away venue on Saturday would also be a big statement.
He said: "I think we have kept that momentum. We've kept working on the stuff that we've maybe changed up and hope to see that continue forward.
"There's excitement around about some individuals that are playing at the minute and I think that's brought an energy to the group. I'm super happy with how those guys have come in but it'll be a different test down at Dragons, because they're playing really well at the minute and it's always a challenge at Rodney Parade. It's far too long since we've put two together, so let's put three together.”
Although their remaining results ultimately count for nothing come the play-offs, it’s still important for everyone at the club to play well and give a good account of themselves. “I think if we win both remaining games then we've won as many as we did last year [eight], although we've not got quite as many bonus points,” added Lawrie.
"We want to develop these guys, but there's no point in developing them in a team that's not winning, you've got to develop them in a team that's winning, so that's very much the focus for the next game.”
Exciting times at the Hive with new signings confirmed for 2026/27 season
There’s plenty to be excited about ahead of next season with five new arrivals already confirmed in Riley Higgins, Louie Chapman, Geordie Gwynn, Alec Hepburn and James Grayson. Edinburgh have also been busy securing new deals for several current players both experienced and emerging.
Lawrie is already looking forward to working with a refreshed squad next campaign, saying: “Sean and upstairs have done a good job of getting these guys in. It's like the new coaches, as well, are going to have to hit the ground running next year, so now excited to put that formula together.”
Across the country at Glasgow, their has been significant signing news for Warriors who have secured the services of former Edinburgh flanker Jamie Ritchie. The ex-Scotland skipper is someone that Lawrie knows very well, having previously coached him from a young age.
“What a servant he was for Edinburgh,” said Lawrie. “I wish him all the best. I know it's good for his family that he's back, which is great.”
