BBC pundit Andy Nicol ruled out of Scotland's Six Nations match coverage with coronavirus
Former Scotland captain Andy Nicol will miss this afternoon’s Guinness Six Nations match with Ireland after receiving a positive coronavirus result – on his 50th birthday.
The pundit was expected to join Gabby Logan and England World Cup winner Martin Johnson on the Murrayfield gantry for coverage of Sunday’s game on BBC television.
However Logan revealed the former scrum-half’s COVID diagnosis had ruled him out of the game’s analysis – just two days after his milestone birthday.
She said: “We were due to have Andy Nicol alongside us but on Friday he received a positive coronavirus test so he is at home, recuperating.

"He is well, we understand and it was also his 50th birthday on Friday as well. So many happy returns from all of us, we are all thinking of you and hope there’s something to cheer you this afternoon.”
COVID also caused the postponement of Gregor Townsend’s team’s trip to France earlier this month after an outbreak in the opposition squad.
