Rookies revealed for Luke Donald's Ryder Cup Europe get-together at Adare Manor

Bob MacIntyre among 16 players making trip in build up to next year’s centenary edition

Four rookies will be part of Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup Europe get-together at Adare Manor in the build up to next year’s centenary edition at the County Limerick venue.

As exclusively revealed by The Scotsman last week, 16 players will be involved in a get-together, which will take place following this week’s Amgen Irish Open at Trump International Golf Links at Doonbeg, which is around 60 miles from Adare Manor.

The players involved in the gathering will then head straight to Wentworth to begin their preparations for the BMW PGA Championship, the third Rolex Series event of the DP World Tour season.

Though a list of the players involved has not been revealed, The Scotsman understands that Bob MacIntyre, who has played on the last two triumphant European teams in Rome and New York, is among the group.

Speaking on Wednesday at Doonbeg, Donald revealed that four rookies will be in attendance, with the trip serving a double purpose by allowing those players that haven’t played it to be exposed to it and those who have to re-familiarise themselves with it.

“Eugenio Chacarra, Kristoffer Reitan, Alex Fitzpatrick and Angel Ayora,” replied the former world No 1 to being specifically asked about rookies at the gathering.

Spaniard Chacarra has won twice on the DP World Tour this season and three times in total in just over 14 months while compatriot Ayora, who wears a Seve [Ballesteros] logo on his clothing, is one of the DP World Tour’s most-exciting young players.

Norwegian Reitan landed a spectacular breakthrough win on the PGA Tour earlier this year in the Truist Championship - one of the $20 million Signature Events on the US circuit - while Fitzpatrick has won on both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour this year.

The latter, of course, came alongside his big brother Matt - a four-time Ryder Cup player - in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Seven members of the triumphant European team in last year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black are in the Amgen Irish Open field, namely MacIntyre, defending champion Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Shane Lowry, Sepp Straka and Rasmus Hojgaard.

Others in the line up include Alex Fitzpatrick and Nicolai Hojgaard, who was on the victorious side in 2023.

It is understood that only about half of the 16 players attening the gathering have played Adare Manor before, either privately or in the JP McManus Pro-Am, which was last held in 2022.
