But there are still two more chances for Scotland’s curlers to appear on the podium, with both the men’s and the women’s competitions currently reaching the end of their round robin phases.
Bruce Mouat’s men’s team started their campaign with back-to-back wins against China and Sweden, before coming unstuck with a narrow 7-9 loss to Italy on Friday.
Over the weekend they won two and lost one - against Czechia, Germany and Switzerland respectively.
On Monday they lost a tight game against Norway 6-7, then lost again on Tuesday against Canada leaving them on the brink of exiting the competition.
But today (Wednesday) they emphatically beat the United States in their last round robin to give them a chance of advancing - if other results go their way.
Here’s everything you need to know.
How can Team GB reach the semi-finals of the Men’s Curling?
Switzerland and Canada have already qualified for the semi-finals, with two of Great Britain, Norway, Italy and the United States set to complete the lineup
Great Britain are currently in third place in the table but have no more games to play - the United States have also completed their round robin matches.
Today saw Italy lose their penultimate match, while Norway lost to Switzerland.
That means that if either Italy or Norway lose tomorrow then Great Britain go through. If both lose then the United States also go through with Team GB.
Who are Italy and Norway playing in their final match?
Italy and Norway are both playing in the final session of the round robin at 8.05am on Thursday, February 19, as follows:
- Norway v Canada
- Sweden v Czechia
- China v Germany
- Italy v Switzerland
So Team GB’s two rivals will have to beat the two best teams of the tournament to go through. Fingers crossed!

What is the format of the Men’s Curling at the Winter Olympics 2026?
It’s a pretty simple format to find out who will win gold, silver and bronze. All the teams will play each other (so that’s nine matches in total for each team), then the top four teams in the table at the end of the round robin will go through to the semi-finals.
The two winning teams from the semi-finals go on the the gold medal game and the two losers will contest the bronze medal game.
How can I watch the Men’s Curling at the 2026 Winter Olympics?
All the action will be available to watch on the BBC - with coverage across BBC One, BBC Two, the iPlayer and the Red Button.
What are the rules of curling?
In each end of curling each team plays a total of eight shots, with each player delivering two stones in succession, starting with the lead and ending with the skip.
At the completion of each end the number of stones closest to the ‘button’ (the bullseye) of the house will score.
The stone closest to the button effectively wins the end, with any further stones closer to the centre than the opposition’s best shot also counting – meaning it is possible, but highly unlikely, to get a maximum of eight shots in a single end (an eight-ender, which is curling’s version of golf’s hole in one).
After ten ends the team with most shots in total wins, while if the game is tied it will go to an 11th sudden death end.
