It’s that time of the year again - as the BBC celebrates 12 months of sporting excellence.
The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award (or SPOTY) was first held in 1954 when around 14,500 voters decided to crown Christopher Chataway over fellowrunner Roger Bannister.
Since then the winners read like a roll call of British sporting greats, with the likes of Andy Murray, Mo Farah, Chris Hoy, Lewis Hamilton, Kelly Holmes and David Beckham all lifting the trophy.
Last year saw athlete Keely Hodgkinson take the main prize, while dart prodigy Luke Littler came runner-up and also claimed the Young SPOTY Award.
And the shortlist has now been revealed for this year’s award, which will take place in Salford’s MediaCity - the home of BBC Sport - at 7pm on Thursday, December 18.
The ceremony will be broadcast live on BBC One, with viewers voting on the winner of the main prize throughout the two hour programme.
Here’s how the bookies rate all six shortlisted sportspeople’s chances - from favourite to outsider.

1. Rory McIlroy - 8/15
Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy made history in the most dramatic of fashions when he won the Masters in a playoff with Ryder Cup teammate Justin Rose. In doing so he became only the sixth player to complete the grand slam of the four major titles in golf - and the first European to achieve the feat. He then went on to be a member of the winning European Ryder Cup team. He's the 8/15 hot favourite to win the SPOTY award. | Getty Images

2. Lando Norris - 10/3
Lando Norris was runner up in the F1 Drivers' Championship last year for McLaren and this year went one better - winning his first title after a brave third place in the final race of the season. In most years he would be a stick-on for the SPOTY, but this isn't a normal year, and he's only the 10/3 second favourite. | Getty Images

3. Chloe Kelly - 5/1
It's fair to say that without Chloe Kelly England probably wouldn't have won their second successive European Championship. She scored a rebounded penalty to take a last-minute win against Italy in the semi-final, then provided the cross that led to the Alessia Russo equaliser before scoring the winning penalty. 4. Luke Littler - 18/1
Darts prodigy Luke 'The Nuke' Littler won the Young Sports Personality of the Year trophy at last year's ceremony - which he has been shortlisted for again in 2025 - also coming second in the main award. He's since won his first World Championship, thrown numerous nine-darters, is the biggest name in his sport and recently became world number one. He has dropped from being second favourite to the 18/1 fourth favourite - perhaps because his sport's biggest tournament is held just after the SPOTY trophy is presented each year. | Getty Images
