Scots skater Lewis Gibson narrowly misses medal position in Grand Prix Final first round
Lewis Gibson, from Prestwick, and Lilah Fear are just short of a medal position.
British ice dance hopefuls Lewis Gibson and Lilah Fear are lying a third of a point short of a medal position after their rhythm dance in the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Japan.
The duo scored 82.55, just 0.34 behind third place finishers and 2025 world silver medallists Piper Gillies and Paul Poirier, who scored 82.89 points in the competition in Nagoya.
Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron from France are in second with a new personal best of 87.56 points, while Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates are first, setting a season’s best with 88.74 points.
The free dance final will take place on Saturday.

Gibson, from Prestwick, and Fear told website Golden Skate: “The audience was very enthusiastic. It’s always just such a pleasure to perform for a crowd, for a crowd like this. It’s just so lovely to skate in a place like this and we wanted to just fill that with our energy and be grateful.
“We always take competitions as feedback and we our favourite thing is to see how we can improve and to make a goal and execute that. We worked on the quality and we made some little tweaks at the end of our free dance, which we’re excited to perform on Saturday.”
Only the top six ice dance teams qualify for the final after the series of Grand Prix competitions in the autumn.
