Last time the city held the event in 2014 it was a huge success - with many hailing it as the best Games ever.

This year it’s been scaled back somewhat after Glasgow stepped in at the last minute when Victoria in Australia abandoned plans to host due to spiraling costs.

But there will still be lots to enjoy, with around 3,000 athletes from 74 nations competing across 10 different sports, from boxing to swimming.

You can still buy tickets for many of the events here, but if you’d rather just sit on the sofa the full event can be watched on television from the comfort of your own home.

But many people have been feeling confused after being unable to find the Games on their television schedule.

Here’s everything you need to know to be an armchair Commonwealth Games fan.

Why are the Commonwealth Games not on the BBC?

Many viewers assumed that they would be able to watch the Games on the BBC - after all, the corporation have broadcast free-to-air coverage of the last 18 Games going back to 1954.

But this year, for the first time, the BBC lost the rights after being outbid by TNT Sports, who have reportedly paid around £5 million to secure coverage.

A spokesperson said: "The BBC has been proud to broadcast the Commonwealth Games over many years, but our bid was unable to match the financial offer from the market.”

What is TNT Sports?

TNT Sports is a major sports broadcasting brand created by a joint venture between Warner Bros. Discovery and BT Group launched in July 2023. It replaced BT Sport in the UK.
