One of best golf scholarships in world is on offer again in Scotland
St Andrews programme provides £15,000 financial support plus top mentorship
A scholarship launched last year to identify and nurture the next generation of golf’s leaders is being repeated in Scotland.
The Royal and Ancient Golf Club Scholarship is a collaboration between The R&A Foundation and The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
The programme includes generous financial support - up to £10,000 per year for educational costs and up to £5,000 per year for golf-related costs - for young individuals keen to commit their talents and energies to the future of golf.
In addition, it also connects them to other like-minded individuals and to The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews through mentorship from its members.
Open to ages 19-29, a first cohort of ten young men and women - from countries including Canada, France, India, Ukraine, the UK and the US - were chosen for the inaugural programme last year, allowing the scholars to make the most of opportunities previously out of their reach.
One of the 2024 scholars was Ellie Smyth, who is learning how to make her mark on the golf industry as she studies Sport and Business Management at the University of Stirling. She plans to promote live golf events by making them as exciting and engaging as possible to attract new and diverse audiences.
“Over 200 applications from across the world were received for The Royal and Ancient Golf Club Scholarship in 2024,” said Jackie Davidson, Director – Golf Education at The R&A. “That is testament to the appeal of this new scholarship and the incredible opportunity it provides young people keen to commit their talents and energies to the future of golf.
“We were impressed by how our final round candidates represented themselves, and their leadership, ambition and intent rang loud and clear. We now look forward to new candidates applying to the scholarship programme from all across the world in 2025.”
The application process for this year’s programme runs until 12 March. Apply here.
