New South African superstar in making is heading for Masters and The Open

Casey Jarvis makes it back-to-back DP World Tour wins to jump to fourth in Race to Dubai Ranking

Add Casey Jarvis to the list of players who might be a danger to Rory McIlroy as he bids to equal Colin Montgomerie’s record of eight DP World Tour Race to Dubai titles.

Like both compatriot Jayden Schaper and American Patrick Reed, Jarvis is now a multiple winner on the 2026 schedule and the 22-year-old looks as though he could be South Africa’s next superstar.

A week after landing his maiden win on the circuit with an impressive triumph in the Magical Kenya Open in Nairobi, Jarvis made it back-to-back successes as he also came out on top in the 115th Investec South African Open Championship at Stellenbosch Golf Club.

In the process, he secured spots in both The Masters in April and the 154th Open at Royal Birkdale in July. Jarvis will be heading into both assignments with lots of eyes on him and understandably so.

"I feel on top of the world at this moment," he said after carding a final-round 67 for a 14-under-par total and a three-shot victory over compatriot Hennie du Plessis, Italian Francesco Laporta and Frenchman Freddie Lacroix. "I feel absolutely incredible. To win in front of my home crowd in my home Open is just absolutely fantastic.”

The win came six years after Jarvis underlined his talent when claiming the South African Amateur Championship. In completing a rare double, he became the seventh different home player in a row to win one of the oldest events in golf.

‘I had a feeling something crazy was going to happen’

"There's so many good memories (of this event),” added Jarvis, who held a one-shot overnight lead and was always in the driving seat after picking up three shots in the first five holes in the closing circuit.

“Brandon Stone, who's a good friend of mine, I watched him when I was about 10 years old and watched him win the SA Open. I just had a slight feeling from the start of the week that something crazy was going to happen and it's incredible."

On the back of his brilliant spell, Jarvis is up to third in the Race to Dubai Ranking behind Reed, who finished joint-29th in Stellenbosch, and Schaper. All three players are in action again in the Joburg Open, which starts at Houghton Golf Club on Thursday.

Laporta and Lacroix also secured spots in The Open, with du Plessis missing out due to having a lower position than both of them in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Australian Lucas Herbert will also be in the Claret Jug line up in Southport after he secured a spot through finishing second to the already exempt Daniel Hillier in the 105th New Zealand Open presented by Millbrook.

Hillier, who landed his maiden DP World Tour win in the 2023 Betfred British Masters at The Belfry, became the first home player since 2007 to win the New Zealand Open, admitting: “I think this is going to be one of the best days of my life forever,” said Hillier.

“I don't know what number New Zealand Open this is for me, but ever since I started playing it, it was the one I wanted to get. I'm so stoked I managed to do it today. Everything that came out afterwards was just pure emotion.”

On a day when Eddie Pepperell closed with a 64 to finish fifth, Ewen Ferguson secured a top-ten finish as well thanks to a 66, with a 73 dropping compatriot Calum Hill to joint-20th after starting the day sitting fourth, just three behind Jarvis.
