New secretary lays out plans for top Scottish golf club
Experienced club manager ready to ‘hit the ground running’, says captain of East Lothian club
Gullane Golf Club’s new secretary is aiming to “enhance its reputation as one of the leading member clubs and golf destinations in the UK”.
Richard Beswick, who has succeeded Gordon Simpson following his move to Swinley Forest last September, started in the post at the East Lothian club this week.
Beswick has moved to Gullane from Caldy Golf Club, where he held the role of general manager since 2019 after being club captain in its centenary year in 2007.

“As one of the very few private clubs with three wonderful links courses, I am looking forward to leading the excellent team at Gullane to enhance its reputation as one of the leading member clubs and golf destinations in the UK,” he said.
‘Club has ben making excellent progress’
Gullane, a two-time venue for the Genesis Scottish Open, has one of the biggest memberships in Scotland and attracts visitors from all over the world each year.
Commenting on Beswick’s appointment, club captain Colin Steele said; “He comes with extensive golf club management experience and I know he is very keen to hit the ground running and continue the excellent progress the club has been making in course condition and customer service over recent years.”
