LIV Golf players made to sweat over 155th Open spot at St Andrews
Glasgow Gailes to stage Final Qualifying in Scotland for next year’s Claret Jug joust
An exemption for the LIV Golf Order of Merit for The 155th Open at St Andrews next year “remains under review” until a 2027 schedule is confirmed by the circuit.
The spot for the breakaway circuit is hanging in the balance after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund withdrew its backing for LIV Golf earlier this year.
A decision on whether it is still merited will be based on what exactly CEO Scott O’Neil can come up with as a 2027 schedule for LIV 2.0.

Meanwhile, a new Last Chance Qualifier, won this year by Englishman Joe Dean, will again be part of The Open Qualifying Series for the 2027 event.
The shoot-out for the final place in the Claret Jug event will take place on the Old Course on Monday, 12 July, with the field being determined using an “approach which complements the existing qualification criteria for The Open”.
The 2027 Open Qualifying Series will provide opportunities for players to qualify for The 155th Open through 19 events in 15 countries being played on the PGA Tour, Korn Ferry Tour, DP World Tour, Asian Tour, KPGA Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Sunshine Tour and Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia.
The road to St Andrews will begin with the FedEx Open de France at Le Golf National this week.
The Amgen Irish Open, which is being moved to the first week of July next year on the DP World Tour schedule, will offer a spot, with three up for grabs once again the following week in the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club.
Final Qualifying will be played at Glasgow Gailes, which takes over from Dundonald Links, Burnham & Berrow, Prince’s and West Lancashire on 29 June.
