The pair joined 719 students at Friday’s graduation - the first in-person ceremonies to take place at Stirling since November 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Matthew was the first female to join Stirling’s international sports scholarship programme in 1987. After graduating, she became a major winner and Solheim Cup legend.

Speaking after the ceremony, she said: “I am truly humbled to receive such an honour from the University of Stirling. Never in my wildest dreams did I envisage returning almost 30 years after graduating with an honours degree in finance to receive an honorary doctorate.

“It was a pleasure to be back on campus and celebrate alongside today’s graduates.”

Boyd, a former Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government, was celebrated for his contribution to environmental science.
