Forget LIV 1.0 and 2.0, Jon Rahm only has 4 on his mind at the moment

Spaniard sees funny side as questioning continues about his future with breakaway circuit

Jon Rahm has been asked again about LIV 1.0 and LIV 2.0 - but four is actually the number he’s got on his mind at the moment.

Wife Kelley is pregnant with the couple’s fourth child - a second daughter is due next month - and the Spaniard is more focused on that at the moment than his LIV future.

In his pre-BMW PGA Championship press conference at Wentworth on Tuesday morning, Rahm was asked if he was fed up with questions about LIV 1.0.“No. I understand you're all doing your job, I get it,” he replied, smiling.

It was suggested that he was showing great patience, having been asked about his LIV status as recently as last week’s Amgen Irish Open at Doonbeg. “Well, thank you,” he said, smiling again. “It's not always the strongest of my traits, but thank you for that (laughter).”

Had much moved on since last week? “I'm liking that you all see the humour in this at this point,” he declared. “No, nothing's changed. It would be the same answer.”

It had seemed significant that Rahm talked about being willing to honour his LIV 1.0 contract yet made no mention of the proposed 2.0 model minus the backing of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

He was asked on this occasion what would have to change for him to leave LIV? “Well, there's a long legal process they have to go through before a lot of things fall into place,” he revealed. “I really can't give you an answer right now.

“I'm very close to expecting our fourth (child). Hopefully playing good this week and at the end of the year - whether we play in Abu Dhabi, Dubai or elsewhere - so, until this current season is done, I really won't be able to give you an answer.”

A move to LIV 2.0 has now been paved after it was announced last week that it had filed for bankruptcy protection as it looks to “begin the next chapter”.

It remains to be seen what the new model will look like, with Rahm, who signed for the breakaway circuit for a reported £450 million, being asked how much of a say the players have had in it.

“I think some players have had more involvement than others,” said the two-time major winner. “I think some people have wanted to be more involved than others. If there's anything I've learned the last, I would say, five, six years, it's that I don't know if I'm meant to be involved in the politics of this game. I don't think I'm suited for that line of work.

“Luckily, I'm good at hitting a golf ball, and I think that's what I should be sticking to. But I haven't really been involved in that. Some players have. Obviously we all know Bryson [DeChambeau] has been quite involved.”

Did the fact he said he would honour 1.0 mean that he doesn’t have a commitment yet with 2.0? “I said what I said,” he replied to that one.
