Craig Ferguson: Scottish charity walker makes plea to help find lost kilt after 3,000-mile trek across the US

The kilt was lost in transit in New York.

Scots charity walker Craig Ferguson has called on the public to help after his kilt went missing in the US.

The Paisley 22-year-old completed a staggering 3,000-mile trek from Los Angeles to Boston in time for the Scotland team playing its first game in the World Cup in 28 years.

The kilted march makes Mr Ferguson the first man in the world to have walked across America in a kilt.

However the success of his walk, which ended with a crowd of Scotland fans piping him in to Boston Common on Friday, has been bittersweet since the kilt he wore has gone missing.

Mr Ferguson posted a video on social media on Monday saying: “In a state of panic my mum was trying to navigate New York and the case has gone missing that contained my kilt as well as some other stuff.

“She’s all good which is the main thing.

“The kilt has gone, it belongs to the US now unless some miracle means we can get it back.”

Mr Ferguson said that there are only two kilts of its kind made.

The kilt has a distinguished rip from wearing various pins.

“And it’s boggin’ because I was wearing it so much,” he added.

“I don’t think that I am ever going to find the kilt, I have basically said goodbye to it.

“The kilt belongs to the USA. I think there’s maybe something poetic about that. But who knows, maybe social media will do its thing and some New Yorker will find that kilt and be able to return it one day.

“Until then, USA kilt, goodbye my friend.”

Mr Ferguson set off to raise £1m for Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH).

Expecting to miss his target, he was handed a £400,000 donation from the Scottish government on the final day of his four-month walk.

First Minister John Swinney praised the walker, who also walked to the Euros in 2024, for his charity effort when donating the funds.
