“I dropped my phone at Scotland World Cup game - and ended up with a selfie with goalscorer John McGinn”

Charlene Wilson says she and her son were filming the Scotland players going down the tunnel after their 1-0 win against Haiti on June 14. She says as goalscorer McGinn neared, she was trying to get him to notice her son and say hi when her phone fell out of her hand and crashed to the ground.

Charlene says McGinn went right over to the phone and picked it up. He then turned the camera round and took a selfie - catching Charlene’s amazed reaction.

She said: “I don’t know what’s funnier, the fact it landed facing me or him taking it for the selfie.”

Charlene is in the United States supporting Scotland in the World Cup with her dad, husband and son. The family will stay in Boston for the Morocco game, before heading to Miami to watch Scotland vs Brazil.

She says the trip, which is her 40th birthday present, has been “amazing” and that they may stay longer if Scotland progress to the round of 32.

Charlene said: “I have never experienced a football environment like this and the fans and whole atmosphere has been something we will never forget. Singing Flower of Scotland in the stadium with my dad, husband and son is something I’ll never forget and cannot wait for the next games. I just need to track McGinn down now for a proper photo before we leave.”

Charlene posted the video, which has received over 70k likes, to her TikTok account @charwil86.

One TikTok user said: “This guy will go down in history as a legend just because of the fans.” Another said: “Eyes like a hawk. Have we checked he’s not actually superman?” Another said: “That’s epic haha! How is it not your profile pic already!”
