Struggling Scottish side sack manager with 185-statement and urge fans to get behind club
O’Halloran and Miller called upon for clash with Rovers
Morton have sacked manager Ian Murray ahead of this weekend’s Championship match at home to Raith Rovers.
The Greenock outfit sit bottom of the league with one point from eight matches and despite being restricted by financial issues, Murray and his assistant Bill Orr have been relieved of their duties by the Cappielow hierarchy.
Ex-Hibs and Rangers defender Murray, 45, took over as Morton manager in early January and guided the club away from relegation danger on the final day of last season. However, the former St Mirren, Aidrieonians and Raith boss was unable to spark an upturn in fortunes and the club’s hierarchy have decided to make a change.

Senior figures Michael O’Halloran and Gary Miller have been placed in temporary charge of the club.
A statement from Morton read: “The Board of Greenock Morton Football Club can confirm that Ian Murray has been relieved of his duties as First Team Manager with immediate effect.
“First Team Coach Bill Orr has also been relieved of his duties.
“We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to both Ian and Bill for their hard work, commitment and professionalism during their time at the club. Everyone at Morton wishes them both the very best for the future.
“Taking charge of first-team affairs until further notice will be Michael O’Halloran and Gary Miller.
“The club recognises the disappointment felt by supporters and understands the importance of the weeks ahead. Now more than ever, the players, Michael and Gary need the backing of the Morton support as we work together to move the club forward.
“We therefore urge all supporters to get behind the team and join us at Cappielow this Saturday for our match against Raith Rovers. Your support can make a real difference, and we look forward to seeing a strong home crowd cheering the team on.
“Further updates will be provided in due course.”
