Long-serving SPFL manager dismissed after investigation into misconduct allegations

League Two club issue statement following probe

Spartans have parted company with manager Dougie Samuel after an internal investigation into allegations of misconduct, the club has announced.

Samuel vacates his position at the League Two side after 14 years in charge - the longest serving manager in the Scottish Professional Football League.

The 59-year-old was placed on “extended leave” earlier this month and former Hibs manager Mixu Paatelainen, who is Spartans’ sporting director, was asked to assist the first team. And now Samuel has been formally relieved of his duties, with assistant coach Paul Thomson stepping up to the hotseat.

“Paul Thomson will continue as our Interim Head Coach for the foreseeable future, we really appreciate the commitment of our coaching, medical and support teams plus our players through this busy spell with another game on Tuesday.”

Spartans are third in the League Two standing after eight games and are back in action on Tuesday when they play Gala Fairydean at Netherdale in the Challenge Cup.
