A pre-contract agreement has been struck with Aberdeen winger Scott Wright, while similar deals for Bournemouth duo Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh look to be in the offing too.
The Gers have made a habit out of that kind of deal in recent seasons, and we’ve even seen them bring forward the arrival of certain players by paying a nominal fee up front.
Glen Kamara is perhaps the best example of how that approach can pay dividends, and speculation remains rife as to whether or not they could look to replicate the Finn’s arrival with any of the three playes that they are currenlty in for.
Aside from that trio, however, Steven Gerrard’s men have been linked with a whole host of players, ranging from Premier League stars to up-and-coming EFL starlets.
A number of reported targets, such as Preston North End’s Daniel Johnson and Sheffield United’s John Lundstram, are at the centre of uncertainty surrounding their contract situations at their current clubs, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see rumours linking them to Ibrox rumble on until the summer.
Lundstram in particular appears to be a player who appears to be generating some excitement.
Former Scotland defender Alan Hutton, for instance, has talked the prospect of him signing for the Gers, telling Football Insider that he believes his arrival would be a real coup for Gerrard.
He said: “We’re talking about a Premier League player here. I know, obviously, he’s had contract problems down south and he’s not signed a new deal.
“I think he’s a fantastic midfielder. He was one of their [Sheffied United’s] best players last season.
"So he’s a guy that definitely improves the squad.”
In the more immediate future, there are also a few players who still look as if they would be more viable as January transfers, whether that be for the Gers or for the host of other sides who are said to be tracking them.
We’ve gathered the full range of whispers involving Rangers from the past few weeks – click and scroll through the pages below to check them out:

Lundstram is out of contract with Sheffield United in the summer, and with no new agreement in sight, has been linked with a move to Rangers. Interest was mooted last summer, and it could rumble on until next summer too. (Photo by Nigel Roddis/Getty Images) Photo: Nigel Roddis

11. Kwadwo Baah
Rochdale starlet Baah is attracting all sorts of attention, with a number of European giants credited with an interest. Bayern Munch, Manchester City, and Juventus are all said to be keen, but Rangers are understood to be keeping tabs too. (Photo by Lewis Storey/Getty Images) Photo: Lewis Storey

12. Francis Amuzu
Reports from Belgium suggested that the Gers were going to make a major offer for the 21-year-old, but as yet, nothing has come of it. At the present moment, this looks like one that could come and go without too much substance. (Photo by LAURIE DIEFFEMBACQ/AFP via Getty Images) Photo: LAURIE DIEFFEMBACQ
