It is clear from the weekend's action that there is now two tables within one in the Scottish Premiership. Wins for Celtic, Rangers, Hibs and Aberdeen has seen the top four extend their lead away from the other eight. There is just three points between the latter with Motherwell picking up their first win of the season.
There is a real inconsistency amongst the eight, with the top four, which will likely end up splitting into two leagues of two, showing their quality so far.

5. The green and white defensive machine
Yes, Martin Boyle was excellent as he rampaged against St Mirren. Especially in the first half. Playing a key role in the first, assisting the second and scoring in the second half.but a word of praise has to go to the defence. The Easter Road side have yet to concede from open play this season with Ryan Porteous, Paul McGinn, Josh Doig and Paul Hanlon all performing well. On Saturday it showed that even when teams do get past the defence, Ofir Marciano is there to repel shots confidently. Photo: Ross Parker - SNS Group

6. Buddies bruising
A lot was made of the goalkeeping situation at St Mirren with Jim Goodwin suggesting that Scottish football is a laughing stock elsewhere in Europe. It isn’t. But the bigger issue for the Buddies is when either Joe Shaughnessy or Conor McCarthy is missing. The former’s absence has resulted in Sam Foley reverting to centre-back. Not only is he not nearly as good as either of the centre-backs in the position, the team miss his presence hugely in the middle of midfield. Photo: Craig Foy - SNS Group

7. Back three the future
Neil Lennon started James Forrest as a left wing-back in Celtic’s waltz past Ross County at the weekend. It allowed him to bring in Shane Duffy for his debut in a back three and field two strikers with Odsonne Edouard and Albian Ajeti. Both were on the scoresheet with the latter having netted in his first three league games. As a pairing they will have far too much power and panache for most Premiership defences. 8. Careless County
After back to back clean sheets to start the season, Ross County have now gone five games without one. The Staggies really struggled defensively last season but with recruitment in the backline, namely the addition of Alex Iacovitti, there was added solidity. Some of those issues from last season reared their head with back defensive issues or structural problems. Photo: Craig Foy - SNS Group
