Aberdeen were heavily depleted but Steven Gerrard went for the jugular with a very attacking line-up that also included James Tavernier making his 150th league appearance against the side he has the best scoring record against.
Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe both started with Ryan Kent in support and Ryan Jack keeping Steven Davis on the bench – and the selection was rewarded with a high-scoring and dominant display from Rangers where not everyone was firing on all cylinders, but were still comfortably better than their north-east opponents.
Two goals in each half gave Steven Gerrard’s side the win, and several substitutions throughout the game spread minutes through the squad to give many of the first-team a run.

A sumptuous supply for Roofe's goal. More of a holding midfielder than a central defender for most of the match, kept Cosgrove fairly quiet when needed. Photo: Mark Runnacles

6. Ryan Jack - 6
Always on the move but Scott Arfield was playing his usual role with Jack allowed to advance more. Commendable performance after so much football and travel recently but not quite on his top game against former side and rested once game beyond doubt. Photo: Mark Runnacles

7. Ryan Kent - 8
Just what the doctor ordered. Seems refreshed from his break and a wonderful opener set him on the way to a great win and rejuvenated performance from the little winger. Photo: Mark Runnacles

8. Scott Arfield - 8
Playing deeper than seen for a while but stepped up in second half and got on the scoresheet with late bursts into attack in second half. Doesn't stop and gets his rewards. Linked well with Defoe when he arrived and epitomised Rangers' relentlessness. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group
