Rangers exit confirmed as club bank fee despite nightmare two year spell at Ibrox

Rangers defender moves to UAE outfit on permanent deal

Rangers defender Clinton Nsiala has brought down the curtain on his difficult two year spell at Ibrox by moving to UAE Pro League side Sharjah FC on a permanent deal.

Nsiala, 22, joined the club in the summer of 2024 from AC Milan, making his debut in a 1-1 away draw with Dundee six months later, before playing the next six consecutive games under former head coach Philippe Clement.

However, the young Frenchman found game time difficult to come by following the sacking of the Belgian boss, and struggled to recover his place in the side after being hauled off by interim manager Barry Ferguson just half an hour into a 4-2 win over Kilmarnock, with Rangers 2-0 down at the time of his substitution.

Told he was surplus to requirement last summer, Nsiala made just four appearances off the bench last season, before moving to Belgian Pro League side Westerlo on a loan deal until the end of the season in January. The 22-year-old struggled at Het Kuipje though, and was relegated to the bench after being sent off early into a 0-0 draw with Union St Gilloise in March.

Returning to Rangers this summer, Nsiala has not been a part of any of the club’s matchday squads, and has now brought an end to his nightmare two year stay with the club by signing for Qatar–UAE Super Cup winners Sharjah FC on a two year contract. The club will reportedly receive a fee in the region of £300,000 for the player.

A short statement from the UAE side said: “Coming from Scottish club Rangers, French defender Clinton Nsiala joins Sharjah's ranks on a two-season contract, under the resident player category. Welcome to the castle of the King.”

Shortly afterwards, Rangers confirmed Nsiala’s departure, saying: “Rangers can today confirm Clinton Nsiala has joined Sharjah FC for an undisclosed fee. The defender joined the club from AC Milan in the summer of 2024 but will now continue his career in the United Arab Emirates. Everyone at Rangers wishes Clinton all the best for the future.”
