New Rangers signing Andreas Skov Olsen makes 'biggest club' claim as transfer details emerge

Danish internationalist unveiled ahead of facing Annan

New Rangers winger Andreas Skov Olsen said he was left in no doubt of the merits of moving to Ibrox after completing a loan move to the “biggest club in Scotland”.

Rangers announced the loan signing of Denmark internationalist Skov Olsen, 26, just before Friday night’s Scottish Cup match against Annan Athletic. His arrival from German side Wolfsburg is a significant move given his pedigree. There is an option to purchase him at the end of the season.

Skov Olsen has been capped 40 times by Denmark and moved to Wolfsburg for £12 million a year ago after three successful campaigns at Belgian side Club Brugge. He is now aiming to add to his medal haul with Rangers.

“I’m very excited,” said Skov Olsen. “I’m very happy that it’s done and I’m so excited to meet all the players, fans and the rest of the club.

“Rangers are the biggest club in Scotland with a huge history. It has huge traditions and is a very old club.

“When I finally heard that I had the opportunity to come here, I wasn’t in doubt for a second. I want to come here to try help win trophies with the rest of the team, do my best, and have a great time here.”

Skov Olsen becomes Rangers’ third signing of the winter transfer window following the arrivals of left-back Tuur Rommens and central midfielder Tochi Chukwuani.

“We are really excited to bring Andreas to the club,” said head coach Danny Rohl. “He is a player who has proven himself at the top level and brings experience of performing under pressure both domestically and on the European stage.

“He will provide real quality in the final third of the pitch and arrives hungry for this challenge and excited by the opportunity ahead of him.”

Skov Olsen is ineligible to play in Thursday’s Europa League match against Ludogorets Razgrad but could be involved in the Premiership match against Dundee a week on Sunday.
