Scotland will begin life under new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli with a clash against Slovenia in the Nations League on Saturday afternoon.
The first time the national side have played since their group stage exit at the World Cup this summer, the 39-year-old Belgian boss takes his revamped squad to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana in their opening game of the competition, before returning home to face Switzerland at Hampden Park next Tuesday.
Plenty of uncapped stars will be aiming to make their international bows at the weekend, with Robbie Ure, Colby Donovan, Luis Binks and Luke Graham in the senior squad for the first time, while Oli McBurnie, Lennon Miller and Kieron Bowie have all earned recalls.
Ahead of the game, Pocognoli said: “If we talk about nerves, yes, but it's a positive nervousness. We have a job with responsibility. It's excitement and I'm just passionate about being on the touchline. It's a lot of new faces, so it's a challenge to find the right balance, to keep the cohesion in the team. I always think the players select themselves.
“We have four games, so we need to plan. We need to have a periodisation [managing training loads, games and recovery] about the tactical aspect and the physical aspect.”
