How to watch North Macedonia v Scotland

Scotland will go searching for a first win under Sebastien Pocognoli when they face North Macedonia on Saturday.

The Nations League match in Skopje provides a third opportunity for the new Scotland head coach to get off the mark after a 0-0 draw in Slovenia last Saturday was followed by a 3-0 home defeat by Switzerland on Tuesday.

While there were positive signs for Pocognoli in the second half of the stalemate in Ljubljana, an early red card for Jack Hendry completely undermined his game-plan in his Hampden bow against the Swiss.

A maiden victory against a North Macedonia side ranked 70th in the world would provide the Belgian with a much-needed boost and help quell any sceptism over the 39-year-old’s appointment. The need for a goal is equally pressing as Scotland have failed to score in four consecutive matches for the first time since 1971.

Their last goal was John McGinn’s 28th-minute strike in their World Cup group-stage opener against Haiti in June. If Scotland do not score within the first 25 minutes in Skopje, it will mark the longest all-time run without a goal in the national team’s 154-year history.

Scotland sit third in Nations League Group B1, five points behind leaders Switzerland and three behind Slovenia, who visit Hampden on Tuesday in the final fixture of an extended international window. North Macedonia are bottom of the table without a point after losing 3-0 at home to Switzerland and 2-0 away to Slovenia over the past week.
