Vandalised Hampden mural on course to be repaired as donations pour in

Eye-catching tribute was damaged by graffiti

Faith in humanity has been restored. A few weeks ago, news emerged of the recently completed mural marking where the first of the three Hampden Parks that have stood to date having been damaged by graffiti.

Donations continue to be received for a crowdfunding initiative that is due to end on the day of the play-off match with Israel on 26 March.

While the mural – at the Hampden Bowling Club – will not be repaired in time for the game itself, there will hopefully be confirmation the £5,000 target has been reached. The sum currently stands at nearly £2,500, with one anonymous donor gifting £500.

This is not only to cover the cost of artist Ashley Rawson having to repaint the mural, which features, among others, Andrew Watson, Scotland’s first black international footballer. It is also to ensure that adequate security measures can be installed to stop further vandalism of this eye-catching tribute.
